4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

One of the trickiest things we can do is learn. Why is it tricky? Well because there is so much to learn and never enough time. I’m not just talking about technology. Sure, Technology changes are happening almost daily, but there are other things that transcend technology. For example, how to be a better human being, how to think better, or even how to think at all. We’re so busy being consumed by media, that we don’t even have time to think.

This is all inspired by my conversation with Amin Ibrahim on this week’s podcast. Funny enough, we never talked about learning specifically, but through talking to him, I learned a lot.

Listen to our show with Amin here.

Another thing to learn about is storytelling. So I created a youtube video about it. This video is focused more on the different types of stories and not on the story structure.

Now to the 4/1/1

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- Reading outside of your comfort zone. I’m very comfortable reading about sales engineering, sales, technology, and self-improvement. After talking to Amin, I noticed that he does not limit himself to anything. One thing I need to learn is to read things that I’m not comfortable with, for example, philosophy, politics, or anything else that’s outside my comfort zone.

2- I find the best way to learn is to talk to other people with experiences different than you. Last week I was on 2 PreSales in a Pod with Don Carmichael and Adam Freeman. After the call, we just talked about sales engineering, life, and progress. From that 10 minute conversation, I had 10 takeaways.

3- This dovetails into my chat with Amin, who specifically looks for people who are different from him to hire. They bring different experiences, ways of thinking, and ways of solving problems.

4- You are the average of the 5 people you associate with the most. If you’re the smartest person in that bunch, you have no one to learn from.

My Episode on Two PreSales in a Pod

More of a resource, I was recently a guest on Two Presales in a Pod with Adam Freeman and Don Carmichael. We discuss social media, and why Sales Engineers should be on it. We discuss overcoming fear and committing to experimenting.
