I don’t know about where you are, but where we’re writing this from, it seems as if Spring has come early.  Such a positive turn of the weather is paired well with this week’s show, a particularly insightful one, featuring Sales Engineering and Pre-sales trainer, Aileen McNabb.

Listen to our show with Aileen here.

Aileen’s methodologies and insights backed by years of research into the human psyche and how we can regulate ourselves based on our knowledge of ourselves were fascinating to hear about. Such stimulating topics always makes my job easy for the 4/1/1, so let’s dive in:

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- Importance of knowing yourself.  I’ve always loved those personal assessments that give you a little window to yourself to better understand how and why you react to certain things the way you do.  Knowing yourself lets you not only better regulate yourself, but also others, as you can get some insight into what makes them the way they are.

2- We are all malleable.  A cool thing about these tests and people, in general, is that we don’t have to always stay the same.  With a concerted effort, we can even change our brain chemistry!  So, if you’re identified as one thing but want to be something else, go be it!

3- We live on a spectrum.  Most things in life are not as black and white as they seem.  There are a hundred million shades of grey between, and most of life (in most aspects of our lives) in between the extremes, sometimes gravitating towards one side more than the other, sometimes right around the middle, but honestly, very rarely are we ever on the most extreme end of anything, which is kind of cool to think about.

4- Just be happy.  That’s the goal in the end.  Do what makes you happy and doesn’t disrupt others.  If that means you’re better without taking a test or knowing your “personality type”, that’s cool, live your life!

1 Tool:

Social Styles Test

MBTI Test

These are some great tests to allow oneself to better understand themselves.

We talked about the social styles test a lot during the show, this is the one that let’s you categorize yourself based on how you deal with stress.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test is a little more in-depth and is also extremely interesting, if not insightful.
