4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

I went on vacation last week. I spent the first 2 days putting out fires at work. It was not fun. The vacation as a whole was fun, but having to put out fires while 2 children are hanging off each arm and another pulling my food hair was an interesting experience.

That’s why we have processes. In theory, we should have a process for when we’re on vacation. I thought I had one, but it was not so good. When I got back, I brainstormed with my manager and hopefully, we have a better one in place.

That’s the thing with processes. They work until they don’t. Whether it’s because the team is growing, the customer is changing, so the process has to change with it. But it’s still better than having no process and working based on our whim or someone else’s whip (Account Managers). Kris Meulemans and I touched on this last week, and we dig in a bit more this week.

Check out the podcast here.

On a different topic, I had the chance to chat with Daniel Caffarey this week. He had put out a video about presenting graphs and what to do. I took that video, and put my commentary. I hope you enjoy it.

Let’s dig into this a bit with the 4/1/1

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- Don’t be a single point of failure. It’s better for your health

2- Presentations in the sales engineering world are different from others. Our job is not to do a speech, but to dig out more information from our customers. A presentation is a tool!

3- Building a relationship is like building a city. It takes time, but we can wreck it overnight.

4- Having one person to whom PreSales and Customer Success report seems like a good idea to me. It creates “synergy” (I’m putting this in quotes as it seems like a buzzword to me) and helps the customer in the end.

1 Tool:

Damian Tomasio who I invited to be on the podcast and we’re going to make it happen recently discussed how he goes about building a slide deck. The interesting part is that I go a completely different route, but I thought it was very interesting and wanted to share it with you.
