4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

Welcome to the mid-point of another week, and with that comes another 4/1/1.  We had another great guest on the podcast, published author Tony Matos to talk about proof of concepts, something that can help make or break a deal depending on how they’re handled.

Lots of great ideas topics were discussed, and here are just 4 of the many ideas that came to mind after listening to the show.

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- You’re not your customer’s top priority. You may have heard this idea on the show before, but it’s worth repeating.  While getting the sale is your biggest priority, your customer may have a million other things going on, and you need to take initiative to get the ball rolling in case it stalls.

2- You don’t have to perfect.  You’ve undoubtedly heard of the term “Minimum Viable/Valuable Product (or MVP).  This is important to bear in mind, whether it be during the delivery of a proof of concept or otherwise, that it doesn’t always have to be everything a customer is looking for right away.  If you can help improve things just a little bit, you’re already providing value.

3- Related to the above, but you’d be surprised how willing customers are to collaborate with you.  It is in their best interest to find the best solution to help them with their goals.  If you’re able to show that you’re committed to helping them, they’ll be willing to make some concessions to take the time to get your offering to where it eventually needs to be.

4- Not related to any of the above, but candy is about to become cheap in many stores.  For those places where Halloween takes place, stores will discount their treats as soon as November hits.  You work hard, treat yourself!

1 Quote:

“When it comes to innovation, business has much to learn from design.  The philosophy in design shops is, ‘try it, prototype it, and improve it’.
