4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote
This is usually when I talk about the interview of the week, but I have to tell you something. It’s been a tough week. If I had not committed to myself to sending an email a week, I probably would not have sent this.
Here’s the funny thing, I’m not special. We all go through something. Most of us might have something going on right now. What that means is that I know at least one person having a hard time (me), so when I talk to people, I can assume that they might be going through something as well and this will allow me to be a bit more understanding.
This also goes for hiring. Applicants think that all the pressure is on them to get a job sometimes. However if you’ve ever seen a hiring manager trying to find good talent, you can see how stressful it is for them. Maybe not the same stress as someone looking for a job, but stressful nonetheless.
So this week I talked to a hiring manager who is scaling his team quite a bit and running through some challenges.
Speaking of stress… well actually the latest video has nothing to do with stress, and more about the differences between Channel SEs and SEs who work directly with the customers.
Now let’s talk about the 4/1/1
4 Random Thoughts From Me:
1- We don’t know what the other person is going through. Whether it’s a customer, hiring manager, job applicant or anyone else.
2- Take care of your health, mentally and physically. I’m not an expert, but I believe that one drives another. If your mental health is not great, your physical health usually follows and vice versa. The beautiful thing is if you start with one, the other usually follows. And many companies have support for folks whether they need to talk to someone about their mind, or see a physical therapist.
3- And if you don’t talk about it, you might not find out. I was talking to my boss just yesterday about what my family was going through, and he told me about a program at the current company I work with that might help. Here’s the kicker, there is nothing wrong with it. We are all going through something. And frankly I feel if there is nothing wrong with you in this world we live in, then you might be out of the norm and I’m happy for you!
4- More importantly, take care of each other. Understand that even if someone is not talking about what they are going through, it doesn’t mean that they are not going through anything.
1 Tool:
I’ve talked about this tool before. It has music that helps folks concentrate. It also has some meditation which I find useful on occasion. Use the link above to get a free month.
