4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

Hopefully, Spring is in full swing wherever you’re reading this from.  Up in Ottawa, we’re starting to get used to some consistent nice days, which is always a good time.  Speaking of good times, this week’s show definitely fits the bill.  We had on Tom Edwards, Founder of the Modern Solutions Consultant and part of the Risk Advisory team at Deloitte, to share his path and best practices for all things sales engineering.

Listen to our show with Tom here.

There were a lot of great points that came out of this show (just as there always are), but it’s really cool to get the perspective of someone who is still relatively young in their career, but who has also already achieved so much.

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- Always remind yourself of how far you’ve come.  We always tend to dwell on failures, but we rarely celebrate small successes.Tom talks about reflective learning on the show and I have to say, I couldn’t agree more.  Being able to concretely see your growth in anything, whether it at an instrument, presentations, or anything else, is an amazing feeling.

2- Good change management also requires good conflict management.  And both require strong communication skills.  It’s crazy how far something as simple as good communication can go.

3- If you see yourself doing wanting to do something, then work to get it.  Just as Tom saw someone up on a stage and wanted to have that type of role, and eventually worked his way to it, you can also set some solid steps towards a goal and get there.

4- The importance of feedback.  I’m sure we’ve mentioned it before, but we can’t overstate the importance of strong feedback.  It can help one get the intel they need to push themselves to the next level, and who knows what you’ll be capable of then.

1 Tool:

This one is more so for those of you with Windows, but did you know you can press Windows Button + G to bring up a built-in screen recorder?  Well, it technically brings up the “games” hub, but one of the features is a screen recorder, with no recording limits!
