As Sales Engineers, it’s essential to be flexible and knowledgeable in a lot of fields. But it’s also just important that we focus on other interests outside our job. And for me, this podcast has been my side hustle, mainly because I just wanted to learn more about sales engineering and improve my career. Whether you want to make a little bit of money on the side, or you want to advance your career, I believe podcasting can help you do that. That’s why I invited Tim Brömme and Jan-Erik Jank on the show not to talk about sales engineering, but to discuss everything podcasts.

They are also hosts of the Sales Excellence Podcast, a podcast for Software B2B Sales & Presales.  Not So Fire Round

  1. What do you love about podcasting?

Tim: #bromance. I like it because it means I can spend time with Jan, because I really like him as a human being, and it’s always quite a productive and constructive conversation we have here. I got into the podcast medium, I discovered it as a medium for me to learn. It’s about giving something back to the community because I used it specifically, in the beginning, to educate myself in financials, and I’ve learned a lot of things,

Jan: I can spend time with Tim. I think you can consume podcasts in a very easy way, because you just need to listen to it. This is one thing that I really love about it because as producers, we just need to take care of our voice. That’s the only thing the consumers will hear, it’s very easy to produce, it’s not rocket science. you don’t need a lot of equipment.

  1. Is there something you would change about podcasting?

Tim: I think podcasting has a way to go to become more professional. What I’m missing a little bit, is (profitability where) large channels can leverage the platform to use it for business. What I find most annoying is that on every single device, there are so many different platforms out there. It’s more difficult to have a channel where you can just cater to all listeners.

Jan: There is some work to do especially for the platforms to agree on a standard, that podcasters can really trust us, in the same way.
