4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

Welcome to the last week of May!  This week, we happened to have on Michael Townsend, Senior Director of Global Presales Engineering at Egnyte, to talk about leading effectively in a variety of aspects.

Listen to our show with Michael here.

Having a leader like Michael on is always a pleasure, as there’s always so much great information that was shared.  It’s also interesting to take in these types of conversations as someone who has many great leaders and leads as well, to really be able to do it most effectively with all in mind.  This week’s 4/1/1 are a collection of thoughts to do with good leadership.

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- You’ve heard it a lot, but it’s too classic not to bring up.  There’s a distinct difference between leadership and management. Both are required, but knowing the difference is important.

2- Little nudges make a big difference.  Sometimes, all a person needs to really become great is a little nudge in the right direction.  See if you can be that nudge and I’m sure it’ll pay itself back in kind.

3- It’s crazy how one’s experiences shape them.  What you’ve experienced with leaders of your own will surely influence how you act as a leader.  From avoiding the bad to adopting the good.  I guess that can apply to all things in life.

4- The power of a bit of agency/autonomy.  Great leaders can give their team members agency to do their best work and it’ll just happen.  It’s crazy how self-motivated people are to produce work their proud of.  If you’re a leader, leverage that!

1 Tool:

LibreOffice

This open office alternative to Office 365 is something that many rave over, and having its dedicated developer community has many arguing that it’s better than it’s costly alternative, try it out!
