4/1/1 A New Year Is Coming…

4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote (December 30, 2020)

Who watched Game of Thrones? I’m not talking about the last season. The entire show they kept telling us that “Winter is Coming”  and I feel it never came, at least not on the show.

2020 was a challenging one. It felt to me like the winter that Ned Stark described on Day 1, but less cold.

Well, 2021 is around the corner. I really did not want to do the 4/1/1. I just wanted to wish you a Happy New Year, but since I’m here, I’ll just share my thoughts.

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- Every Christmas, around 30 people would huddle up inside my parent’s humble bungalow, and at some point, after we are lubricated with enough wine, we’d have to tell everyone what we are thankful for in that year. I know in the US and Canada this is a thanksgiving tradition, but I’m Lebanese and we do things our own way. This year was harder. Still, every one of us found one thing that we were thankful for.

I know the same must go for you as well. But with the year in the rearview mirror, I urge you to look back and find some positives that happened this year among the mess that we’ve been dealt. We need some positivity in our lives, especially right now. Here is some positivity below.

2- Positivity 1:  The Sales Engineering community is the best community in the world. I’ve never seen a group of people who don’t know each other willing to help pull up those who are going through adversity. I am proud to call myself one of you.

3- Positivity 2: We got to hang out with family more. I was home with my kids all summer. I had more time to help my parents out when they needed it. Whether you have kids or not, being stuck at home must have given you more time. Time to learn something new, to connect with friends you’ve lost touch with, or simply watch a show that you’ve been wanting to watch just for mental sanity’s sake.

4- Positivity 3: When they release us back into the wild, we will appreciate the little things more. I know I will. I miss sushi! I miss not having to submit 10293304 forms before I can go to the office, and I miss listening to podcasts in the car.

1 Tool:

I hear meditation help. I’ve tried it several times, and it’s helped me but not enough to actually want to keep doing it I guess. When I’ve tried it I used headspace. I know some famous people recommend it as well.

Another option would be Waking Up by Same Harris. They both have free trials if you want to give it a go.
