4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

One of the best ways to learn is by being self-aware. The problem with that is self-awareness is a very hard skill to get good at, let alone master. It’s easier to become self-aware if we get feedback from colleagues, friends, customers, or random people on the street.

I see many people willing to give them, but far less willing to take them. That was the point of discussion with Kelsey Frost on this week’s podcast. How she built a culture that enables giving and taking feedback.

#212 Being Vulnerable To Build A Culture Of Feedback

As for this week’s youtube video, check out the latest video titled “Hey, Sales Engineers, Don’t Shoot Yourself in the Foot!”

This is something Chris White talked about initially, and I’ve seen it happen in several calls. I’ve even done it myself.

Without any further ado, let’s jump into the 4/1/1

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- If you want to be able to give feedback, you have to be able to receive it.

2- If we’re busy being defensive while taking feedback, we are not open to the possibility of finding something useful in it and it will go to waste.

3- One piece of feedback I’d give any SE is to not shoot themselves in the foot. They want to be consultative and truthful, but there’s a difference between pointing out faults that may not matter to the customer vs being consultative.

4- There isn’t one way to receive feedback and different people like receiving it in different ways. So if you want to provide feedback, find the best way for someone to receive it.
