4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

Almost everybody I know these days talks about selling on value, return on value, proof of value, etc. So I joined the bandwagon and I chatted with Woody in this week’s episode about the value hypothesis. What it is, how does one get that hypothesis, and what we can do with it.

One of the most common questions I get from existing or aspiring SEs is how to other SEs get paid? So I made the video below to explain it based on my experience. I would love it if you’d share your experience as well.

Here’s the video

Let’s dig into this a bit with the 4/1/1

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- To show the value, we have to understand what value means to the customer. Therefore we need to do a proper discovery.

2- The salary range for sales engineers is so vast, from 70K for simple SaaS all the way to 300K for any industry it seems. What you can ask for is based on the value you bring to the company.

3- Same as when selling a product, you have to know what the hiring manager and team’s need, and show your value accordingly. You are the product.

4- Also, knowing your value will allow you to make the decision of whether to leave a company or stay with it. There’s more to your value than money.

1 Tool:

Certifications help to increase one’s value. One of the more popular ones is the AWS Cloud Practitioner. Here’s a free youtube video on that certification if this is something you need.
