4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote (April 29, 2020)

Week 2198909097870 of this quarantine. How have you been? I know it’s been tough on some. Others did not feel it as much. If you’re feeling it more than others, please reach out to your contacts, friends, family, etc. Feel free to join the Virtual Coffee Breaks as well.

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

  1. Many people have lost their jobs recently due to this pandemic. All of us have the power to help. How we can help is where we differ. The minimum we can do is when those people share an update that they lost their job on LinkedIn, Twitter, or whatever, we can simply like that update. That will get more visibility and maybe help someone get a job.
  2. Currently, those who are able to work from home are usually sitting in front of their computers for the duration of their work time. Slack is on, Jabber, work email, twitter, personal email, LinkedIn, Teams, and so many other sources of distractions. Yet many of us have less time to work since we have daddy or mommy duties. That is why I like to turn off all personal emails, social media notifications, and I have my work “collaboration” tools set to in a meeting. I don’t do that to be difficult or because I don’t enjoy talking to people. I do that because I want to get things done. Once my most important items are completed, I can take a look at all of that.
  3. We all work with people we may not enjoy their company. It could be teammates, colleagues or customers. If you ever feel the need to complain, I suggest that you give yourself 5 minutes, get it out of your system, and then get back to work. Make sure you don’t leave evidence. Also, make an effort to understand where they are coming from. They may be just hard to work with, or they may have a point.
  4. A final thought is that although many of the sales engineers I know have similar struggles, needs, weaknesses, and strengths, we are all unique in some way. I am curious about all these and I want to learn more to see how I can help. Please take a few minutes to fill in the survey. I would greatly appreciate that, and I hope that will allow me to help you with more relevant content going forward.

1 Tool:

Brain.FM

Sometimes as Sales Engineers, we need to sit down and do some deep work. Focus is paramount, and that’s where this service helps me. It’s music that is created to help improve focus. They have a lot of scientific papers on the website to back up their claim that it helps with that, but I just tried it and it worked for me. It also has guided and unguided meditation, so instead of paying for 2 services, like Spotify and headspace, I just use this.

If you try it and like it, get a “Refer” link to get a free month. That’s what I’m using in the link above.

“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity.”
