4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote (July 15, 2020)

#NoSELeftBehind is going on strong.  We had 5 interviews last week and we’re still working on more.

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- You are in a lot more control than you think. Here are some of the things you can do:
  • Connect with more people
  • Start putting out content.
  • Help people
  • consult /freelance
  • Improve – get certification

2- Ghosting happens. It sucks. But there are a few things that you can do to help mitigate that.
  • Ask for the timeline. We are mostly sales engineers here. Some sales, some aspiring sales engineers. So this is a skill that we should have. We need to know the timeline of where the hiring manager needs to hire. If they cannot tell you, there’s a good chance you will be ghosted.
  • Ask if they are talking to somebody else, how many interviews. There should be competition. If not, then why?

3- The interview process takes a long time. There are things that managers can do to streamline, for example, instead of having 10 individual interviews, interviews can be combined together. Or check out the #NoSELeftBehind interviews that would hopefully bypass the screening call. As Sales Engineers, we need to ask in the first interview what their process is, how many interviews, and what they are looking for.

4- If you want to be part of #NoSELeftBehind, let me know. Hit the reply button and let me know how I can help or if you know someone who needs help.

1 Tool:

The tool of choice for finding a job is LinkedIn, however, I have noticed that LinkedIn does not really show everything all the time. The best tool for finding a job is a spreadsheet that you update on a weekly basis by going into your target organizations and looking for career opportunities there.
