4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

Hey everyone, another week brings another interview and another 4/1/1.  This week’s guest was Max Lüpertz, a presales professional and founder of Presales Rockstars, a business meant to help Sales Engineers enhance their skills.

Listen to our interview with Max here.

Having a great guest who took a chance to start their own business is amazing, and as such, this week’s 4/1/1 takes from that idea (mostly).

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- There’s always room for more. We’ve talked about this a bit, but it’s always great to see fresh takes and perspectives on existing ideas.  John Care, Peter Cohan, Bob Reifthal are some of the celebrities of the SE world, and they started their businesses to help SEs a long time ago. Since then, many more similar businesses have popped up, and each with their own way of doing things, own way of teaching, and their own audience. This helps Sales Engineers get different perspectives, ideas, and methods of doing similar tasks. So if you’re thinking of starting a project, there is no reason not to do so, unless it’s illegal. That’s a different story.

2- Put yourself in the shoes of others. Max talked about the importance of buyer enablement and taking a buyer through the buying journey with their specific needs in mind.  This ability to put yourself in the shoes of others has so many benefits in the relationships you build and forge beyond just in your professional life.

3- Develop good habits now.  This is probably something I’m telling myself, but as this pandemic wears on, and as the winter comes, it’s easy to develop bad habits that result in a much worse you when we come out of it.  The sooner you develop good habits and carry them through tough times when you need them most, the happier you’ll be with yourself when the world gets back to normal.

4- Keep practicing. You’ve heard it before, but (perfect) practice makes perfect.  You’ll never likely be amazing at something when you first try it, but you will likely get better at it over time as you practice.  We’re not all Allen Iverson, and most of us need practice.  But be warned, if you practice poorly, you may be doing yourself more harm than good.
