4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

I’ve been on vacation the last week, and if I didn’t know it before, I know now that I am a single point of failure at my organization. That added a bunch of unwarranted stress to my vacation with the family, and I had to work on figuring out with my wife and kids when I can work without disrupting the vacation as much as possible.

Vacations are supposed to be used to restore sanity, or mental well being. Lucky for me I figured out how to maintain my sanity while at work since my vacation seemed to not fullfill what it’s supposed to.

Here’s a video on how I maintain my sanity while at work.

Now it seems I need to work on a video on how to do that while on vacation.

The good news is I Was able to talk to John Care this week where we talked about what has changed in the last 8 years to warrant a new edition of the Mastering Technical Sales Book.

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- We serve the sales process not the salesperson

2- If you and your salesperson don’t have a sales process or a presales process, then it’s time to sit together with your salesperson and build your own.

3- Take control of your calendar before your calendar takes control of you.

4- I’ve said many times that sales engineers are the athletes of the business world. That makes us competitive. So much so that I refuse to lose to my 4 and 6-year-old in anything. Is that bad?

Mastering Technical Sales: The Sales Engineer’s Handbook 4th Edition by John Care

This is the SE Bible that should be read by anyone in Sales/Presales role. If you don’t have it, get it. This is an affiliate link, so I thank you for your support.

1 Quote:

“Work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. The other four balls– family, health, friends, integrity– are made of glass. If you drop one of these, it will be irrevocably scuffed, nicked, perhaps even shattered.”
