4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

The beginning of my SE career was interesting. I was hitting my quota, managing my salesperson, and feeling generally good about myself. Ignorance is bliss it seems. As soon as I became self-aware, I realized how bad I was at my job and I really worked hard to get better at it. As I started doing that, horror stories began to materialize around me. I share some of them on this week’s podcast.

Some of the horror stories that I share or hear are related to Account Managers, after all, they are human too. Here are some mistakes I see AMs make, and what we can do to help solve them

Let’s dig into this a bit with the 4/1/1

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- Horror stories don’t stop throughout your career. There is always something that happens that we can learn from.

2- Processes are meant to guide us, especially those we put in place. Skipping steps could be ok, we have to be careful that it’s the exception and not the norm. There’s a reason we put that process in place.

3- Sometimes management puts processes in place and it’s their job to explain why we should follow them.

4- Having people around you to support you through tough times, through horror stories, is one of the most important things we need. Don’t forget to reach out to these connections and say hi.
