4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

Hope you’re doing well wherever you’re reading this from and that things are starting to open up in each of your respective locations.  This week, we had on Chris Colburn, Co-Founder of Demostory.io, a browser built for SEs to give engaging live demos, to talk about his best practices for SEs to grow and develop themselves to be extremely effective at their jobs.

Listen to our show with Chris here.

Hearing from people like Chris who have achieved so much is always such a pleasure as it allows anyone who hasn’t walked in those shoes yet to accelerate their careers by picking up some best practices shared.  On that note, this week’s 4/1/1 takes a variety of cues from today’s conversation around best practices that I’ve taken up in bettering myself as an SE (and in life in general).

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- Does practice make perfect? Not necessarily, but “perfect practice” is much more likely to make perfect.  Practice as you play, and you’ll find that you’ll play just as you practice.  And if you’re doing it right, you’re doing yourself a world of favors.

2- Honesty is the best policy.  As mentioned on the show, if you can’t do something that your AE expects of you, be transparent about your limits with them.  This will prevent any issues that may come up from misaligned expectations and can will result in a more seamless relationship down the line with those you work with most.

3- Defending what your product can do.  As Ramzi mentioned, no product can do every single thing that a customer may want.  Sometimes too, clients can benefit from a change in how they do things.  Your product was built a certain way, and in many circumstances, you can probably dig into why a prospect is doing something a certain way and explore whether it makes sense for them to adopt your product’s way of doing it instead.

4- Find your style.  Whether it be as a Pre-Sales Professional or for life in general.  Once you find your fit, find your style, and own it, you will excel in the presentations you give.

1 Tool:

Demostory.io

Demostory.io was not only co-founded by this week’s guest, but it also is a super nifty browser to organize your demos and tell a story, especially if your demos involve going into different instances of whatever system you’re selling.
