4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

As we start to near the latter part of the summer, it’s important to try to get the most of the warm weather while we still have it.  I guess that applies mostly to those of us that have some chilly weather to look forward to in the coming months.  But even still, making sure we enjoy the time we have is generally a good thing to abide by.  Listening to this week’s show, featuring Sonu Sahi, Senior Manager of Solutions Engineering at DocuSign, is an example of a good way to spend some time, as Sonu goes into depth the ways that can make an SE role fulfilling and empowering – and several other things too!

Listen to our show with Sonu here.

With that, let’s dive right into the 4/1/1.

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- You may not know it, but you may be the leader everyone is looking for.  No matter your position, you can espouse a leader’s values intentionally or unintentionally (Like Sonu), which is likely to get noticed by others, which can lead to you being recognized as a leader, even if you did not intend to be.

2- Corporate culture is such a fascinating subject for a variety of reasons, but what I love about it is that anyone is a steward of culture.  Sure, it can be championed by those at the top, but if nobody buys into it, then it falls flat.  No matter where you are in the corporate structure, you have a pretty significant role to play in defining your organization’s culture.

3- Related to the above, it’s surprising how much power you have as an individual to impact your organization.   Whether it be by spreading the values of the culture, or by introducing a new initiative, or anything else that took your own initiative to make so, the ability you have as an individual to change how things are done at an organization is bigger than you may think.

4- Be genuine.  This is probably good advice for all sorts of things in life, but we talk on the show about the benefits of getting to know your colleagues by “getting casual” with them.  If you do this without being genuine about it, it can hurt more than it helps.
