4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

We’ve been focused on helping Sales Engineers get jobs in this market, and last week was no exception. So my conversation with Charles Gerrior Jr. was all about building a funnel for job hunting and then going through the process of landing a job.

Let’s dig into this a bit with the 4/1/1

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- BANT (Budget, Authority, Need, Timeline) can be used to qualify job opportunities in addition to customer opportunities.

2- They say “trust your gut”. Why would you do that? Or the better question is how can you get there. Trusting the gut comes from experience. From trying things and having them not work out. As Sales Engineers, we have to learn to trust our guts. But that means we will have to take risks, make mistakes and learn from them.

3- There’s nothing wrong with staying put. In this economy, nothing is fully secure. Some are more secure than others however, and if you’re in a job and not miserable, there is nothing wrong with riding the wave! That’s where you have to trust your gut. No one can make that decision for you, and hopefully, your gut is trained enough to help you with that decision.

4- In the meantime, keep building your network.

1 Tool:

Hunter.io – find people’s emails. Sometimes when we send a connection request on LinkedIn, we may never hear back. That could be because the individual is not active, or because they don’t want to connect with you. So, if it’s appropriate, I use Hunter.io to find the work email format for the individual I’m connecting with and then send an email.

This can be viewed as creepy, so use it wisely. Keep in mind that we work in sales, so sometimes we have to annoy people in order to help them.

1 Quote:

“Trust your gut…if your gut has experience.”
