4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve talked to Nate Broome and Aileen McNabb. One is a VP of Sales who was able to identify his weakness and use it to his benefit, and the other is an SE Coach who loves learning about people’s strengths and making sure they are not turning them into weaknesses. You can check out both podcast episodes here:

Let’s dig into this a bit with the 4/1/1

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- Acknowledging our weaknesses is one of the hardest things to do.

2- The good news is that once we know our weaknesses, we can either work on them, around them or get some help and focus on our strengths. The example I mentioned on the podcast with Nate is that I’m an introvert and find it hard to build relationships in a group setting. But I recognize that I’m good at one-to-one situations, so I focus on that!

3- There are still secrets to our profession, so keep learning.

4- Sometimes you don’t know yourself as much as you think, so getting an outside perspective through tests or coaching helps

1 Tool:

Aileen recommended Via Characteristics Strength Survey in order to understand your strengths. I did it, and my top 3 strengths are Fairness, Honesty, and Humor.

You can learn more about yourself there as well. How accurate is it? I will leave that for you to decide.

1 Quote:

“I think it helps when you’re being told it’s not that you’re weak is that you’re being too strong in one area.” – Aileen McNabb
