4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

Communication is the backbone of Sales Engineering. Everything we do means nothing if we cannot communicate it with someone. That’s why I enjoyed chatting with this week’s guest.

Check out the Podcast below.

I get so many questions about which role titles should be a potential SE search.

So, here’s an update on the confusing titles that engineers have while working in sales, and a bit more.

Let’s dig into this a bit with the 4/1/1

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- Doesn’t matter what we’re called, it just matters what we do.

2- Look at more than the title to know if the role is a potential good fit. Even then, we have to talk to the hiring manager and the team to have a better idea.

3- There is more to communication than dumping information. The hardest part is understanding. If we can understand properly, the rest easily falls into place.

4- Active listening might be the hardest part of communication. Not zoning out when it’s less interesting, showing that we understand are all a part of it.

1 Tool:

I hate presentations. I don’t know if I said that before, and if you didn’t know, well now you know. I find them boring and a chance for the presenter to simply dump information, and the “dumpee” to fall asleep.

Mentimeter helps make presentations more interactive. You’d have to build the presentations from scratch unless you’re willing to pay for the tool, which I leave up to you if it’s worth it, but I would simply share my screen with 2 tabs open, a presentation and Mentimeter, go into presentation mode, and switch between the 2 when I have something to show on either tab.

I’m still in the experimentation phase, so if you have any questions about it, please let me know and I will give it a try.
