4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

 
 

Hey everyone, welcome to another week!  As the weather warms up, the shows keep coming.  This week was no different, with SME and SE, Doc Ballje, to share his insights around solutions selling.

Having experienced all that Doc has, it’s no surprise that he had a lot of great information to share.  This makes my job pretty easy when writing up the 4/1/1, and so let’s dive in!

 

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

 
1- The power of transferable skills.  While all of our guests sound pretty great, I felt like Doc’s radio experience really came through on the call.  His pacing and tone throughout kept me engaged, and I’m sure kept his listeners and any audience he has engaged as well.  Not a bad skill to have as an SE on calls all the time.
 
2- The power of passion.  Doc’s passion behind his space and technology and making people’s lives better was worn all over him.  Passion like that is contagious and is bound to attract customers and people to you if they even have a passing interest in the topic.
 
3- The way you frame things can make all the difference.  This can apply to picture frames too I suppose, but I’m talking about framing a conversation or sales pitch.  Taking what would otherwise be a commodity sale and turning it into a solution sale is a really cool skill to have that I never thought about before but is so important.
 
4- This may be a cheat of thought, but hearing Doc talk about it just reinforced the idea that being a good storyteller as an SE is so important to convey an idea or thought effectively to your audience.
