Partnerships has been on my mind. As Sales Engineers, we team up with many people from many different teams, but mainly we team up with Salespeople. This relationship is a lot like a CEO and CTO/CPO relationship. That’s one of the reasons I enjoyed my conversation with Dan Hellerman.

As for this week’s video, I answer the question: Should I work for a startup?

Let’s dig into this a bit with the 4/1/1

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- A partner can make or break your career. Whether you’re an SE teamed up with 1 or 2 salespeople, or like Dan, being a startup founder and finding a partner and CEO.

2- If you want to have a good partner, you also have to be a good partner. What can you do to improve at being a partner?

3- There is no perfect SE role, there is a perfect SE role for you. How would you define that?

4- I had this tip on LinkedIn and seems that people found it useful, so I want to share it with you: Sending thank-you emails after the interviews will not differentiate you from the good candidates who do the same. If you have a discovery call with a customer, you don’t send a thank you note, you send meeting notes. You should do the same in the interview.

1 Tool:

I’ll be live with Dan Caffarey to discuss how to keep your audience’s attention during a presentation on December 8th at 11:30 AM EST
