4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote (June 24, 2020)

I’ve talked to a few SE Leaders on the podcast, and the good ones seem really interested in finding ways to enable their teams. However, not everybody has great SE leaders. Most of us have the ok managers. Those who don’t stand in your way but don’t do anything to push you further along your career path. Here are some thoughts about that.

 

 

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

 
1-It is my responsibility to …. It’s my responsibility to get better, to find mentors, to tell my manager what I want in my career. Sure, it is the SE Manager to help you, but just because they are not, doesn’t mean you cannot start working on it. Start building your relationships with those who can help you achieve your goals. 
 
2-Know what you want! It’s hard to get to the destination if you don’t know where you are going. It’s hard for a manager to guide you there too. Work on your one-page plan, create your career path. If you want an example I have a free email course that walks you through building one. More on that in the tools section.
 
3- If your career path is to stay put as a Sales Engineer, then that is amazing since you found your calling.
 
4- The last thought is more of a question for you. Do you work on making your strengths stronger, or do you work on bringing up your weaknesses?
