1- Drive.  It takes courage to drop a safe and stable path to take on the unknowns of entrepreneurship. Taking the risk with a strong sense of drive will make a potentially tumultuous path much more stable as your end goal will always be in sight.  Leadership in general requires drive even if you’re not an entrepreneur as you and your teams depend on you to reach your goals, which is made easier by already having them in sight. 

 

2- Be flexible, adjust when you need to.  While having drive is extremely important, it’s also very important to not be too rigid in how you function.  Sometimes swallowing one’s ego is one of the hardest things for people to do and deviating from an original idea can seem as if you’re not being true to yourself. A good leader however recognizes when they need to pivot to better serve their market and teams. 

 

3- A rising tide raises all boats.  Usually, leaders aren’t just leading themselves, there’s usually some semblance of a team that they are leading.  By supporting your team members to be their best, they’re likely to give you their best.  Empower them to reach their potential, and they will. 

 

4- The only way to know is to try.  Leadership can be a scary concept for the uninitiated.  But the only way to know if you’ll like it (or be good at it), is to try.
