4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote
Hope you’re all having a great week! The world is opening up even further still (in some places), the Olympics are going on, and we’re still in a pretty nice time of the year. That being said, as August nears, it’s important to try to get as much out of what’s left of the summer as we can.
In general, anything blocking us from achieving the things we’d like to should be attempted to be overcome as soon as possible. This week on the show, for example, we talked about some common mental blockers that SEs sometimes put upon themselves.
As you may expect, this week’s 4/1/1 takes some inspiration from what we discussed, let’s dive into it.
4 Random Thoughts From Me:
1- Any job has skills that are transferable to another. Talking about how the customer isn’t always right really took me back to my experience in the service industry (which I think everyone should work in one way or another). It really reminded me of how there have been several skills that benefit me as an SE that I developed in my first few jobs in life.
2- Do what feels right, and ask for forgiveness later (if necessary). A huge mental block for a lot of people, not just SEs, is feeling like they’re caged in a job that doesn’t allow them to grow or reach their full potential. I think for SEs in particular, a lot of sales organizations don’t know how to properly leverage a good SE. But if you feel like things can be done better, then do it, and most often you’ll be thanked for it.
3- Some of you may have noticed that the Olympics are going on. This year there seem to be quite a few upsets with countries winning their first golds, or medals at all, or underdogs taking down goliaths in their respective sports. It all goes to show the power that commitment, drive, and heart has on achieving one’s goals.
4- Look out for yourself. Speaking of the Olympics, there has been a stir around US Gymnast Simone Biles bowing out of some events in order to focus on her health. I personally think it was a very wise decision on her part, especially considering the potential long-term effects of something bad happening. With so many rallying behind her, it’s a good reminder that in the end, even on the biggest stage in the world, you must always look for what’s truly best for yourself.
