#72 Preparing For Customer Conferences

As a Technical Sales Engineer or Solutions Engineer since John works at VMware, he’s been exposed to the world of Customer Conferences. There are some technical sales skills there that I’ve never had to exercise, for example, getting customers to actually attend such an event and then he has to make sure they get the most out of it.

John had just got back home from this event, and I wanted to chat with him while everything was fresh in memory, so I went live on youtube with him. He was whipped out after 5 long days of being “always-on”, and I was whipped out after working close to a 16 hour day. So if you want to see 2 delirious people talking about VMworld, answering the viewer’s questions, and then chatting about podcasting in general, check out the youtube below.

In this show we will discuss:

  • What is VMworld?
  • What they do there?
  • What he does to prepare his customers for VMWorld
  • Management By Objective (MBO) Vs. Quota
  • Levels of promotions
  • Keeping Account Managers accountable
  • What has their podcast done for them
