#71 Transferable Skills, from Business Owner to Sales Engineer

I’ve talked to a few folks in my career as a “podcaster” and some of them went on from being a Sales Engineer to owning their own business. My guest today, Chad Petersen, actually decided to go the opposite way. After owning a successful business for over 20 years, he decided that there are some benefits to working for somebody else. He also decided that he would prefer to do that as an SE.

It was fascinating talking to Chad. Someone with his experience who still enjoys challenging themselves, trying out new experiences, like improv and using that to improve his skills was great to hear.

How will you work to improve your skills?

In this show we will discuss:

  • What it’s like to own a business
  • Transferable skills from owning a business to Sales Engineering
  • Changes in the SE role over the years
  • Exposing customers to the solution value
  • Telling Stories
  • Improv
  • The flexibility of Sales Engineering
