4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

When I first started as a Sales Engineer, I thought there is only one type of Sales Engineer. Someone who is tied one-to-one with an Account Manager and has a territory to cover. I also thought there is one way to be a Sales Engineer as well only to find out I was doing it wrong. The only way to learn what I was doing wrong was to meet other SEs outside of my own organization. So when I was talking to Adam Burgess about Sales Engineering, we realize that we think about it differently.

Let’s dig into this a bit with the 4/1/1

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- Different organizations require different types of SEs. Some are mapped 1 to many, some 1 to 1, and many are simply pooled.

2- Many SEs failed at one company, then moved on to be great in others.

3- Get out of your bubble! There are many different thoughts and perspectives that can help us form our knowledge. We have to expose ourselves to all of them.

4- There is much more to sales engineering than what is customer-facing.

1 Tool:

Success.app now has a free version that any SE can sign up for and use to manage their POCs. I highly recommend checking it out and I will be asking the SEs that collaborate with me at my org to jump on this.
