This week we have a double dose of Trevor Spires. First we talk about his journey into Sales Engineering and what he is doing to differentiate himself from the crowd, and second he helps us figure out what we should get certified in in this week’s Youtube video.

Let’s dig into this a bit with the 4/1/1

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- There is nothing wrong with taking the traditional path to Sales Engineering. Many people hype the fact that teachers, musicians and accountants are becoming Sales Engineers, but being in a position like Professional Service might be the best role to have to get into Sales Engineering.

2- Selling is hard to begin with. Now we also have to sell change. Change from Perpetual to Subscription. Change from On Premises Architecture to the cloud. That’s where SEs can show their metal.

3- Work-life balance doesn’t exist. We’re always working on work-life balancing. It doesn’t just happen. And if it does happen after a lot of work, if we stop working on it, the balance goes away!

4- Find the most known brand in terms of certifications and work on getting one or two. This would be useful in terms of general knowledge, but also recruiters are searching for those terms.
