4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

 

We make decisions early on in our lives without knowing how they will affect our lives. Sometimes we feel stuck. Luckily in the world today, we can do lateral moves that can take us from one role to another in the same industry, and there are the resources to change industries altogether. And there is nothing wrong with that.

 

My podcast guest last week had an initial start to her career, where she was not having too much fun. Now she is an SE leader, building and designing SE teams.

Also, being a Sales Engineer has a lot of perks, from monetary perks to fun perks which help us remain excited about the job.

Let’s dig into this a bit with the 4/1/1

 

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

 

1- Just because we’re not excited about what we’re doing today doesn’t mean we won’t find what does excite us. We may need to pivot, switch careers or grind it out to do it. We will get there if we are conscious of it and take steps to improve it.

2- Many SEs I talk to seem to not know that it’s ok to take a 2-week vacation until they see their boss do it. But if it helps at all, know that you can. If you really really can’t, it’s time to find something new.

3-  There are things we can do while working that can get us rejuvenated. Start a public speaking club at work, or learn new technology. I have We the SEs to keep me sane.

4- Remembering why you are doing something helps as well.

 

1 Tool:

I mentioned MileIQ in the last video. I mentioned that I used it and I felt that it did not work for me. It doesn’t mean that it will not work for anybody else, so if anyone is interested in tracking miles, take a look at it.

I simply use the google maps timeline. It’s free and gives me a good
