4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

Not all organizations can pay their SEs hundreds of thousands of dollars. Some organizations have a smaller budget, and that’s a job opportunity for some that may otherwise be unavailable. Also, those organizations will have to get creative in their hiring and retaining process.

That is what Kathryn Prudence, Solution Engineer Manager at Absorb, has had to do to recruit and retain Sales Engineers.

As for this week’s video, I unfortunately came down with a cold over the weekend and my voice simply disappeared. I decided to spare you from hearing whatever my voice sounded like.

On the bright side, I did have a live session or 2 since then, so check those out. Here’s the one I hosted on August 24th, focused on Discovery.

I also did a live on Tuesday and Thursday this past week and will continue to do so next week. If there’s a topic you’d like covered, hit the reply button and let me know!

Now to the 4/1/1

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

– Some organizations don’t pay as well as others. That should not be taken as an insult. It could however be a door to opportunity to some. If you’re already an experienced SE, then these organizations are not for you. Otherwise, you can use that door to get your foot into sales engineering.

– If the salary happens to be quite low though, explore other forms of payment such as proper SE training.

– Keep in mind that no matter what company you work for, you should always continue to build your network.

– One major thing that SEs should learn is that no matter what a meeting is called, it’s always an opportunity to continuously qualify the current deal, discover new opportunities, and highlight the product in the best light.

1 Tool:

For the first time ever, I’m recommending not using a tool, or more importantly not simply relying on one to do the job for you. Yes, I’m talking about ChatGPT.

I know, it’s controversial. ChatGPT has its pros. They have been listed everywhere on the interwebs if you want to have a look.

However, the one con is that people rely on it too much, especially for writing. Whether it’s connection requests, blogs, or emails, and no matter how many prompts you provide, in the end, people can “feel” that the message is not personal. I tell that to my clients, and as soon as they start writing personal messages, the results they are looking for magically appear.
