4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

We have come a long way. We used to be seen as sales support, and now most good organizations see us for what we are, a powerful asset to the sales team. Yet, we are not given the importance that sales are.

For example, most of the tools budget is held by Sales. Nobody scoffs at salesforce or another CRM. They even buy useless stuff (in my opinion) like Quip. Who uses that? Yet a simple tool like Gondola.ai is impossible to procure and it makes everyone’s job visibly better.

That’s why I’m happy to hear that certain organizations have a Sales Engineer Enablement team. And I was very happy to chat with Paul Newsome about his role in it, and why orgs should have it.

Now on to the 4/1/1

 4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- Start your own enablement practice. Connect with a few like-minded people and work on it together

2- Use what you have. Some organizations have Sales Enablement. Use them. There are many things we can learn from sales that will help us as sales engineers.

3- Question everything. Sometimes we do things because that’s a methodology that we inherited, or because we didn’t know better. Question it, and if it still works by the end of the “audit”, great. Usually, there are things to tweak

4- Embrace bad processes. Don’t embrace it as in keep using it, but be happy that there is a bad process. That way, you can fix it and help your colleagues.
