4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote (April 22, 2020)

So, we’ve been home for a while. I know some of us hate to stay home all the time, some love it. I know I have mixed feelings about it. I am an introvert, in case anyone is wondering, but I also enjoy connecting with customers one on one. However, being home is enabling us to get some new skills, or hone some old ones. Here are some random thoughts about it.

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- A new skill Sales Engineers have to develop is working with kids on their lap, although my wife pointed out female Sales Engineers already have that skill mastered.

2- Sometimes going too many back and forths with the customer can lead to both being upset and frustrated. Picking up the phone and calling them can change the tone of the conversation drastically. The question is how can you get their personal phone number during these quarantine times? Well, you ask, or you set up a conference call.

3- It is important to stay in touch with folks, colleagues, customers, friends, and family, especially now. That’s why we do the Virtual Coffee Break every week. Link to join Tomorrow’s at 11:00 am EST | 8 am PST is below. If you cannot join this, you schedule one with anyone you want. More in the tools section

4- The last random thought is that I’m thankful that this pandemic is happening at a time where many of us can continue their work, even at home. Also thankful that many of us are in a position to help those that are going through some harder times. The Sales Engineering community is one of the best communities that I’ve had the honor of being a part of. So if anyone wants help in any way, you have my email, you know where I’ll be tomorrow, along with many other SE leaders. Jump on and let us know how we can help you.

1 Tool: well, it’s a twofer

In the spirit of keeping in touch, there are many tools we can use. Some of us use them for business, but we can use them for personal connections for free.

Webex: Free for 100 users and unlimited time (was 50 users and 40-minute time limit before the pandemic)

Zoom: Zoom also free for 100 users. Unlimited sessions for 1 on 1, but 40-minute time limit beyond that, although it’s been waved more often than not.
