4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote (June 10, 2020)

Time is our most precious commodity. People are so worried about spending their money, however as people in sales, we know we can always make more. The one thing we cannot make more off is time. Time to spend with our family. Time to do a meaningful hobby. Time to do the important tasks that we need to do.

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- How do you know what you’re spending your time doing is having an impact? Do you track what you do on a day to day basis, week to week? Do you try to change things around and see what the results are? It is impossible for me or anyone who is not in your exact position to tell you what you should be doing, but the only way for you to be 90% sure that you are doing the right actions on a daily basis is by coming up with a theory and testing it. That’s how Tim Ferriss came up with the 4-Hour Workweek. He came up with theories, and then tested them.

2- There is a difference between effective and efficient. You can do useless tasks efficiently. You can not be effective if you are doing useless tasks.

3- One of the tasks that I’ve spent a moderate amount of time on these days is learning my conferencing tool. My theory is that if I can learn my conferencing tool better; then when it’s time to do a demo and dazzle my customers, I won’t waste time in the meeting figuring it out and taking the customer out of the flow of the demo. Learning is not very efficient, but it is always very effective.

4- One place you cannot be efficient or effective is with your family. Even though this is not a sales engineering topic specifically, but being happy at home can definitely help in our career. So focus on being with your kids, wife, husband, partner, pet, or whomever, and be as inefficient as you can be.
