4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote

I was out last week. My family and I took turns getting and recovering from Covid. The good news about it is that I had to slow down and actually use my brain for something other than consumption. So this week, I wanted to talk about Thinking.

But first, this week’s podcast episode was with David Ledger where we talked about how things change when a company goes from 1 product only, one skew as they say, to multiple products or skews and how that affects the sales team.

And if you are looking to change jobs and want to improve your resume, here are a few questions that you need to ask yourself

Now the 4/1/1

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

1- When do you think? We live in a consumption-based world. Music, movies, podcasts, and youtube are all at our fingertips. You’d hear advice about not listening to music in the car, instead, listen to an audiobook. But should we be scheduling times of silence? Times where we can hear our thoughts?

2- If you don’t think, how do you notice that things are changing? David talked about how their company is acquiring other companies and now his SEs are becoming more generalist SEs. Similarly, Jimmy Barens mentioned how the required SE skill set for his organization has changed. How many people were blindsided by that and didn’t stay ahead and up to date?

3- What makes you different? What are your superpowers? If we can reflect and figure this out, we can understand what value we bring to our employers and double down to bring more value, and ask for a raise at some point.

4- Similarly, we can reflect on our areas of weakness, and decide if it’s worth investing in bringing them up to par, or simply ignoring them and leveraging that part out.
