4 Random Thoughts, 1 Tool, and 1 Quote
I’ve been talking to many folks either looking for their first SE gig or their next one. The experience SEs tend to know that it takes time, but those looking for their first gig as SEs tell me that they want to be onboarded in the next couple of months. And that is the inspiration for this 4/1/1.
But before we get there, this week I talk to Anthony Palmoze and he’s a prime example of how long it could take to land your first SE gig.

Now the 4/1/1
4 Random Thoughts From Me:
1- It takes time to get a new job, especially as a Sales Engineer. The interview process on its own can take a few months. Then comes the offer. That’s if everything goes smoothly.
2- A resume doesn’t get you a job. Contacts do.
3- What can you do to get people to want to help you?
4- Most companies provide referral fees. If you’re employed, there is something in it for you as well. I’m saying that knowing that most SEs would help even if there weren’t a referral fee.
1 Tool:
A great friend of mine Fil Caprial shared with me VisualCV.com which is a site that provides excellent resume templates. This is not an affiliated link as I have not used it much, but check it out and let me know what you think.
As for Fil, I can not say enough great things about him. He was great as an individual contributor and great as a leader. He is now looking for his next opportunity so feel free to reach out to me so I can broker an intro.
