Large organizations are great for sales engineers, especially the new SEs. Most have a good organization and are willing to show a new SE the ropes. The SE has back up, enablement, established process, etc.

4 Random Thoughts From Me:

2- You rarely get anything you ask for it.

3- Trevor had to sell sales engineering as a concept before selling himself as the right person for the role!

4- You never know if you will like a role before you start doing it.
