When we work for a company, are we loyal to that company? How about the manager we report to? Are we obligated to have loyalty to our manager or company?
These are questions that I think about on occasion and I always come to the same conclusion… No!
The company is paying me to do a job. My integrity pushes me to do the best job I can do, however I know that if the company needs to show their shareholders some better numbers on their financial reports, there isn’t anything stopping them from letting me or anybody else on my team go. So why shouldn’t I be the same and when I need to show my shareholders (my family and other people who may depend on me) some better numbers, why wouldn’t I find another job?
Yet, I didn’t feel that in every job. Some jobs I felt a lot of loyalty. Maybe not to the organization as a whole, but at least to my manager. I wanted to do a good job for him. I wanted him to be recognized as the best SE leader in the company. And it wasn’t just me, it was most of the SEs reporting to him. Why was that?
Well, today we talk to Liz Whitaker-Freitas, who seems to have a loyal following from her SEs, and we check why are her SEs loyal to her.
